Summer readiness tips. Bank time now for gardening, grilling and patio fun by following these steps to get ready for summer from home improvement expert and Workshop for Women (workshopforwomen.com) founder Judy Browne.

Organize your garageby storing like items together — car, lawn, sports equipment, etc.

Take proper careof your power tools by keeping them clean. Brush away dust and debris and wipe off grease and grime.

Freshen up your patio by using a cleaner designed for outdoor furniture such as CLR Outdoor Furniture cleaner. It contains UV protectants to keep your patio decor from fading or discoloring.

Check your screen doors and windows for damage and repair them as needed. A local hardware store can replace screens quickly and cost-effectively. Or, do it yourself.

Clean and repair all gutters and downspouts. You’ll need gloves, a bucket or plastic bags, and a hose. Keep the bucket with you instead of tossing muck over the side. Once the gutter is reasonably clean, use the hose to flush out remaining debris. Note location of leaks or holes that need repair.

Cut back any trees or vegetation that come in contact with your roof to help maintain gutters.

Remember that furnace filters need to be changed now if you have central (whole house) air conditioning.
