DENVER—A Denver-based cancer charity is giving Red Rocks concertgoers a chance to save lives.
At every show this summer at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Love Hope Strength Foundation is teaming with the bone marrow donor center DKMS to take cheek swabs from fans willing to join a national donor registry.
Visa Inc. is supporting the effort.
About 6,000 patients in the U.S. are awaiting a bone marrow match, which usually comes from a patient’s own ethnic group. The donor registry sorely needs more multiracial volunteers.
Love Hope Strength Foundation was founded by entertainment insurance executive James Chippendale and rocker Mike Peters of The Alarm, both cancer survivors. Its fundraisers have included concerts at Mount Everest and Machu Picchu.
