The Colorado School of Mines received $2.5 million from Southwestern Energy Company and Harold and Patricia Korell on Friday to support a new petroleum engineering building.

The pledge brings the school to within $500,000 of its fundraising goal for Marquez Hall, a $25 million building that will be the new home for the school’s petroleum engineering department.

Harold Korell, the company’s former chief executive, was a 1968 graduate of Mines.
