The South East Business Partnership honored Charles Schwab, Donald Sturm and several others at its annual meeting and awards luncheon program Friday.
The Partnership gave Charles Schwab the 2009 Deal of the Year Award for its plan to expand its Colorado operations. The company plans to add 500 new jobs in Douglas County. SEBP also recognized the city of Centennial and Mayor Randy Pye, RTD head Cal Marsella and Ray Wells, who was instrumental in the development of the southeast corridor.
The Partnership also honored Donald Sturm, chairman of Sturm Financial and a well-known philanthropist in the region, with its 2009 Chair’s Award for Financial and Leadership Investment in the South Metro Area.
Sturm gave the keynote address at the luncheon. He said he decided not to speak about the economy, real estate and politics because everyone has been inundated with the bad news on those fronts. Instead, he shared his life story of good fortune and urged attendees to recall their good fortune, their mentors and how they made it to where they are.
“Despite all the challenges out there,” he said, “we all share wonderful opportunities in this life.”
