The last time the Rockies faced the Padres’ Chris Young, they stole eight bases, the second most in franchise history. Dexter Fowler set a modern-day rookie record with five steals that day. But Friday night, the Rockies didn’t get any steals off of Young, despite reaching first six times on walks. Clint Barmes stole second in the seventh, but that was off of reliever Joe Thatcher.

Torrealba time.

Yorvit Torrealba didn’t hit the ball hard, but he had a productive night nonetheless. The catcher singled up the middle in the first, reached on a surprise bunt single in the fifth and hit a grounder under the glove of third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff in the sixth, scoring two runs. Kouzmanoff was charged with an error, so Torrealba was not credited with any RBIs.

Q’s on third.

New manager Jim Tracy showed off a new wrinkle in the eighth, replacing Garrett Atkins at third base with Omar Quintanilla for defensive purposes. Typically this season, former manager Clint Hurdle inserted Ian Stewart in those situations.
