WINDSOR, Colo.—About a dozen U.S. flags that were shredded and muddied in Windsor during last year’s tornado will be retired during a ceremony by the Flatirons Young Marines.

The northern Colorado unit of the Young Marines, ages 8 to 18, will perform a flag retirement ceremony at the Windsor American Legion Saturday.

Three Young Marine families were affected by the tornado, including one who lost a home.

Greeley resident Echoe Shriver says the children collected the flags during the cleanup efforts after the tornado and have been holding onto them ever since.

The tornado tore through northern Colorado last May, destroying 80 homes in Windsor and damaging another 770. One person was killed in a campground near Greeley.
