GOLDEN, Colo.—A woman convicted of stabbing her husband in the back as he prepared a property list for their pending divorce has been sentenced to 19 years in prison.
Prosecutors said Nancy Ruth Bautista was sentenced Thursday. She was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and one violent crime count in the stabbing of Michael Bautista in April 2007. They had been married seven years.
Her attorneys argued that Nancy Bautista stabbed her husband in self-defense. They said she suffered from battered women’s syndrome, had borderline personality disorder and was abused as a child.
Prosecutors argued that she was angry at her husband and told him as he lay bleeding that she wanted him to feel the pain she was feeling.
