Which is better: stepping onto the Olympic podium or walking across the stage to get your college diploma?

Two-time Olympic medal-winning figure skater Michelle Kwan will find out Saturday when she receives her bachelor’s degree at the University of Denver.

The 28-year-old Torrance, Calif., native, who was spotted recently at Game 1 of the Nuggets-Lakers series in Los Angeles, came to DU in 2006 with a year’s worth of credits from UCLA. Saturday, Kwan will receive a degree in international studies with a minor in political science.

When she enrolled at DU, she had decided to change her goals after winning silver at the 1998 Winter Olympics and a bronze medal in 2002.

Kwan did not compete in the 2005- 06 season because of a series of injuries. She was chosen for the U.S. team for the 2006 Turin Games on a medical bye, but she injured her groin in the first practice in Italy and withdrew. Upon enrolling at DU later that year, Kwan said, “Education is very important to me, and this year I have decided to put college first.”
