VAIL, Colo.—Eagle County authorities say a suspected illegal immigrant has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old in a remote cabin.

The sheriff’s department said 24-year-old Adolfo Guardado of Edwards had exchanged Internet messages and phone calls with the child, who then asked Guardado for a ride to school.

Deputies allege the child was taken to a cabin and sexually assaulted.

Guardado is being held in the Eagle County jail on charges of sexual assault on a child, enticement of a child and kidnapping. Bail is set at $15,000.

Authorities say Guardado is also being held on a federal immigration detainer.

Jail officials say they don’t know if Guardado has an attorney.
