The Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment has a newer, shorter name, the agency announced today.
The name, Jefferson County Public Health, came from a strategic-planning process that involved focus groups and other assessments.
“The purpose of the name change is to emphasize the public-health aspects of the organization — plus, it’s a lot easier to say,” Dr. Mark Johnson, the agency’s director, said in a statement.
