WASHINGTON — Ford is telling lawmakers it is concerned that federal support for GMAC is giving the rival auto lender cheaper borrowing costs.

Fair treatment for Ford is among the issues the Senate Banking Committee will probably examine at a hearing Wednesday on how President Barack Obama’s auto task force is restructuring the industry, said Justine Sessions, spokeswoman for Chairman Christopher Dodd, a Connecticut Democrat.

Ford is the only major U.S. carmaker that hasn’t filed for bankruptcy protection.

Ford has been lobbying lawmakers for a level playing field as it competes against GM and Chrysler, which are slashing costs through U.S.- sponsored bankruptcies.
