LAKEWOOD, Colo.—A man accused of brandishing a weapon at a Lakewood liquor store is dead after an officer-involved shooting inside Denver city limits.
Two officers responded to a call about the man after he left the store near 1st Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers spotted the suspect a short time later and pursued him for several blocks until he made a U-turn and crashed into the officers’ unmarked police car.
Police say the suspect got out of his vehicle and started running. Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis says one of the officers felt threatened and shot the suspect.
He died at a hospital.
The officers weren’t hurt. Police say the suspect had a gun, but it’s not clear if he fired it.
His name wasn’t released.
