Two Colorado Springs teens broke into a neighbor’s home and trashed it, causing $16,000 in damage by pouring paint throughout the interior and smashing windows, police said.

The incident happened Saturday in the 5100 block of Mira Loma Circle, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

Two teenage boys, ages 16 and 17, have been arrested as suspects. Their names were not released.

“It appears to be a random act of meanness,” said Sgt. Darrin Abbink, a police spokesman.

The victim told police it was the second time in a month that the home was burglarized.

After both burglaries one of the teen suspects, a neighbor, stopped by and asked questions about what had happened, according to police.

The homeowner suspected the teen and told police. An investigator contacted and interviewed the juvenile and items stolen from the damaged home were recovered, police said.

The investigation lead to a second juvenile suspect in the case. Both suspects are being charged with burglary, police said.
