GOLDEN, Colo.—Prosecutors have filed animal cruelty charges against a man after a horse in his care was dragged through a pasture with his pickup truck.

The Jefferson County district attorney’s office said Friday that 43-year-old John Wilmarth McCulley II had been charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty.

He also faces 36 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty in connection with other horses prosecutors say lacked proper care.

The counts were announced following the seizure of 17 horses on McCulley’s property.

Prosecutors say it’s the second time in two years that sheriff’s officials have seized horses under his care, and most of the horses seized last month were the same horses that had been seized before.
