With summer but a day away, it’s nice to know that Federal Heights’ Water World is ready for family fun.
We congratulate the attraction on its 30th anniversary.
When critics of bureaucracies say government ought to be run like a business, perhaps they have Water World in mind.
The biggest revenue generator for the Hyland Hills Recreation District creates summer jobs for young people, provides safe entertainment for families, and says it has seen 10 million visitors since it opened its “Bonzai Pipeline” waterslide in 1979, according to The Post’s Monte Whaley.
Today, the 67-acre park includes more than 45 watery attractions, from slides to its massive Thunder Bay wave pool that simulates an ocean.
After Greg Mastriona, executive director of the district, worked with district officials Steve Loose and Gary Maurek to create that first waterslide, the district made $35,000 in one month, Whaley reported.
But it was the “smiles and people laughing” that convinced Mastriona the park could be a success.
We hope Water World keeps them smiling and laughing for another 30.
