PUEBLO, Colo.—A Pueblo golf pro accused of sending phony invoices to the city has been cleared of all wrongdoing.
A jury took just an hour Friday to find 54-year-old Mike Zaremba innocent on charges of theft, forgery and criminal impersonation. Prosecutors said Zaremba sent the city two doctored invoices in 2007 for $9,000 for consulting work done by an employee of his on two city courses. Zaremba denied wrongdoing and returned the city’s money when the work wasn’t done.
Jurors cited a lack of evidence in clearing Zaremba. The golf pro was arrested while playing in a charity golf tournament in 2007, and after the trial he criticized officials for arresting him in the middle of a public event.
