BROOMFIELD, Colo.—A Nov. 30 trial date has been set for a man accused of killing his 13-year-old girlfriend and dumping her body in an irrigation ditch.

Eighteen-year-old Alex Pacheco faces charges of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse and child abuse resulting in the death of Kelsey Shannon. Her body was found in January in Broomfield, about a half mile from her family’s home.

Prosecutors allege Pacheco bragged to his friends about choking and stabbing Shannon, then having sex with her corpse. Shannon was a witness against Pacheco in a theft case, though prosecutors have not said whether that was a motive in the slaying.

Pacheco has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bond at Broomfield County Jail.
