NORTHGLENN — A Northglenn Police Department motorcycle officer was seriously injured Thursday morning when he was hit by a commercial truck that ran a red light, police said.
The officer, a 10-year veteran of the department who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital.
The crash happened about 7 a.m. at East 120th Avenue and the southbound ramp of Interstate 25, said Sgt. Rick Kellogg.
The officer suffered serious injuries, Kellogg said.
Kellogg said the officer was getting onto the highway with a green arrow when a commercial truck ran a red light and plowed into the front end of the bike, throwing the officer from it.
The driver of the truck, an unidentified 17-year-old, is in police custody and is being interviewed about the crash, Kellogg said. He drove away from the crash scene and was contacted by an officer several blocks away, Kellogg said.
