Carlos Gonzalez’s fourth-inning triple Saturday, his first in a Rockies uniform, could be a good omen. He followed it with a single in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Gonzalez’s laser from center field nailed Matt Holliday at the plate. Gonzalez, of course, was part of the Holliday trade last November. Before his June 5 call-up from Triple-A Colorado Springs, Gonzalez ranked second in the Pacific Coast League with seven three-baggers. But it’s no secret the outfielder has struggled. Since being called up, his strike zone expanded and he was swinging at bad pitches. But the Rockies are 12-2 when he starts.
Hammer time.
The Rockies hit four homers off Trevor Cahill. The last time an A’s pitcher served up four homers in a game was Aug. 9, 2006 (Barry Zito vs. Texas).
