Profiled last week in this section, the team of the Audeamus crossed the finish line in the Indian Ocean Rowing Race on Thursday, setting a record for the fastest crossing of the Indian Ocean by rowing boat. The eight-member crew includes Denver lawyer Doug Tumminello plus Simon Chalk, Ian Couch, Helen Taylor and Paul Cannon of England; Angela Madsen of Long Beach, Calif.; Brian Flick of Portland, Ore.; and Belgian Bernard Fisset. Rowing a 36-foot-long boat, the crew launched from Geraldton, Western Australia, on April 28, and arrived in Mauritius after 58 days, 15 hours and 8 minutes at sea. Other Indian Ocean rowing records include the first eight-person crew, the first paraplegic (Madsen), the first females (Madsen and Taylor) and the first person to row the Indian Ocean twice (Chalk). The four-man Bexhill Trust Challenger arrived Friday evening, while the remaining four teams were still rowing toward Mauritius. Follow their progress at indianoceanrowing . Kristen Browning-Blas
