PUEBLO, Colo.—A recruit for the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office collapsed and died after the department’s physical agility test.
Sheriff Kirk Taylor says that the 34-year-old recruit, Sergio Aragon, collapsed Monday at a high school track after running about a half-mile as part of a standard physical agility test.
CPR failed to revive Aragon, and he was pronounced dead at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center. An autopsy is pending.
Aragon was among about 275 people seeking detention deputy positions. The physical agility test included running, crawling through a small tube and dragging a dummy. Aragon was one of the first to finish before collapsing.
