Blues Traveler adds a dash of funny to its annual Fourth of July show at Red Rocks with opener and Comedy Central regular Lewis Black, the king of quivering huff. Is there much crossover between Traveler’s peppy blues rock and Black’s red-faced tirades? We’re not sure, but with tickets this cheap, it couldn’t hurt to investigate. The show is a Front Range tradition, so it’s nice to see the otherwise static lineup get a makeover. Saturday, with exemplary Denver comedian Chuck Roy and rising Austin, Texas, soul-rock act Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears. $25-$35. Ticketmaster

Cowboy Junkies’ music cultivates a distinctly tranquil mood, so much so that it made the Toronto family band (three of its members are siblings) the go-to act for dinner party-friendly covers of the Velvet Underground, Elvis Presley, the Beatles and more in the late 1980s and ’90s. The group’s original material, a slice of twang-inflected folk-rock, is no slouch either. Wednesday at the Ogden Theatre with alt-country scions Son Volt, featuring Jay Farrar of seminal alt-country act Uncle Tupelo (which also featured Jeff Tweedy — now of a little band you may have heard of called Wilco). $35.
