DENVER—The Colorado Rockies have reinstated catcher Yorvit Torrealba from the restricted list.
Thirty-year-old Torrealba was placed on the restricted list June 2 to attend to family matters involving the kidnapping and safe recovery of his family members in Venezuela. He missed 27 games while he was away, including a four-game stint at Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Torrealba hit .267 (4-for-15) with one RBI and a walk in his four games with the Sky Sox June 23-28. The Rockies catcher is hitting .230 (14-for-61) with 2 home runs and 7 RBI in 19 games Major League games this season.
The Rockies designated catcher Paul Phillips for assignment to make room for Torrealba. Phillips started Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and went 0-for-2 with a walk.
