Second baseman Eric Young Jr., a Rockies prospect, was among three Colorado Springs Sky Sox players voted to the Pacific Coast League all-star team Wednesday.

Young, the PCL leader in stolen bases with 46 and runs scored with 68, will be joined by Sky Sox outfielders Matt Murton and Matt Miller in the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 15 in Portland, Ore. The PCL all-stars will play the International League.

Young is hitting .292 and has three homers and 21 RBIs. Miller (.324, five homers, 63 RBIs) and Murton (.377, nine homers, 43 RBIs) are among the league batting leaders. The PCL all-stars are selected by team managers, media and fans.

Fort Lewis’ Hankinson resigns.

Fort Lewis men’s soccer coach Tim Hankinson is leaving the team to become the head coach of Salgaocar SC in India. Salgaocar SC is a first-division professional team in India’s I-League.

Hankinson, a former Rapids coach in Major League Soccer, compiled a 32-8-4 record in two seasons at Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks qualified in consecutive seasons for the NCAA’s Division II tournament and won two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships.

“Tim is a true professional and a class individual. The Skyhawk soccer program and I will miss him,” Fort Lewis athletic director Kelly Higgins said.

Skyhawks assistant coach Ogie Kennedy was named the team’s interim head coach through next season.

Donations benefit Buffs.

Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn said the Buffaloes have received two private donations totaling $610,000.

One of the gifts, an anonymous donation of $360,000, was given so the football offices at the Dal Ward Center would be renamed the Eddie Crowder Football Operations Complex in honor of the former CU football coach and athletic director who died last year.

The money also allowed the athletic department to replace the 18-year-old floor in the Dal Ward Center weight room with a rubber tile sports performance floor. Installation of the new floor was underway Tuesday.

The second gift, a donation of $250,000 from John and Debbie Raeder, was given in support of the student-athlete academic center at the Dal Ward Center, which is now named for the Raeder family.

Air Force loses player.

Basketball center Phillip Brown won’t be back at Air Force for his junior season. AFA men’s coach Jeff Reynolds confirmed Brown no longer is a cadet at the academy. Reynolds said he could not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding Brown’s departure because of the privacy act.

“We’re disappointed, but we wish him well,” Reynolds said. “We’re going to stay in contact with him because he’s a great kid, and we’re going to help him where we can.”

A recruit of former AFA coach Jeff Bzdelik’s, the 6-foot-7, 230-pound Brown could have provided the Falcons with considerable strength and athleticism. But his career at Air Force never really got started in large part because of academic struggles.
