Arvada police are warning of a scam that leaves victims waiting on a $90,000 prize to be delivered from federal agents.
The only catch: the lucky winner must first wire $450 for insurance before U.S. marshals will deliver the money, according to a report by 9News.
Sgt. Jeff Monzingo of the Arvada Police Department told the television station that elderly people are more trusting if they think law enforcement is involved, and therefore more likely to wire money to the scammers.
In Colorado, it is a Class 6 felony to impersonate law enforcement.
