Portland’s Wade LeBlanc struck out six Colorado Springs batters over seven strong innings as the host Beavers defeated the Sky Sox 3-1 on Sunday in Triple-A Pacific Coast League play.

Colorado Springs’ Adam Eaton (3-2) gave up two runs in six innings. He gave up a solo home run to Portland’s Mike Baxter in the fifth inning that tied the score at 1-all. After reaching against Eaton in the seventh, Baxter scored the go-ahead run against reliever Ben Julianel.

Eric Young Jr. scored on a sacrifice fly from Daniel Ortmeier to give the Sky Sox a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Colorado Springs (49-34) remains atop the Pacific North Division, 10 1/2 games ahead of Portland (39-45), the Padres’ affiliate.

Dance to the Star wins stakes race.

Jockey Adrian Ramos rode Dance to the Star to a highlight victory Saturday in the Colorado Thoroughbred Association Derby stakes race for 3-year-olds at Arapahoe Park in Aurora.

Ramos, with owner Francis A. Heckendorf Jr. and trainer Kenneth Gleason, earned a winner’s share of the $33,395 purse. Homerun King, ridden by John Rochabrun, was second, followed by Major Billy with jockey Russell Vicchrilli.

Sunday’s races at Arapahoe were highlighted by Get Thee Hence’s victory, with jockey John Rochabrun, in the $22,975 Front Range Stakes.
