Nine airlines have pushed back against a U.S. Department of Justice filing that opposes Continental Airlines’ request for antitrust immunity so it can join the Star Alliance.
The department said last week the airlines should have more limited immunity and that the proposal would hurt consumers, boost fares and cramp competition.
The Justice Department is asking the Department of Transportation “to abandon almost two decades of highly successful international aviation policy predicated on granting antitrust immunity to airline alliances,” the carriers said in their response.
