A Denver police officer was treated for “serious” injuries at a hospital overnight after a car accident in southeast Denver.

The two-car accident happened at about 10:25 p.m. at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and East Bayaud Avenue, said Sonny Jackson, a Denver police spokesman.

The unidentified officer, a sergeant and veteran of the department, was northbound on Colorado Boulevard when a man driving an Isuzu Rodeo southbound on the boulevard turned left, to head east on Bayaud, in front of the police car, cutting it off.

The SUV rolled in the accident, but the driver was not injured and went home from the scene, Jackson said.

The officer was held overnight at a local hospital, and his condition is improving, Jackson said.

The accident remains under investigation.
