FLORENCE — Fremont County sheriff’s officials said Saturday afternoon that a 100-acre wildfire that prompted precautionary evacuations of dozens of homes is 50 percent contained.

Steve Segin of the Rocky Mountain Coordination Center said officials hope to have the fire contained by today.

County Commissioner Ed Norden said about 150 to 200 homes were evacuated after the fire was reported Friday near Florence.

The roadblocks were removed Saturday night and the evacuees were allowed to return to their homes.

Sheriff James Beicker suspects the fire was human- caused, but the circumstances weren’t immediately known.

Residents of Los Pinios, Corley Ranch, Twin Creek and Lock Mountain Estates subdivisions were evacuated.

In western Colorado, fire officials were continuing to manage a lightning-caused fire burning about 32 miles northwest of Grand Junction on Saturday.
