Those interested in sampling a slice of adventure racing have a rare late-registration opportunity to take part in the Adventure Xstream Race Series in Summit County on Saturday.
The multisport race still has a few openings for individuals or two- to four-person coed teams in 6-hour, 12-hour or 18-hour events designed to test skills in kayaking, orienteering, trekking, trail running, mountain biking or an inline skating option. Course lengths include 20-, 60- and 100-mile treks with elevations up to 12,300 feet.

Steamboat race set.
Moots Cycles has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the 2009 Steamboat Springs Stage Race, assuring that the state’s only four-day road stage race is set to launch over the Sept. 4-7 Labor Day weekend.
Preregistration is required before Aug. 1 with a race category field limit of 75. Event registration is $100 and is now open online at . Pro and amateur categories will compete in standard stage race format for a minimum $5,000 cash purse and additional merchandise prizes.

Danielson rules.
Boulder’s Tom Danielson of Garmin- Slipstream won the Bob Cook Memorial Mount Evans Hill Climb on Saturday in 1 hour, 42 minutes, 9 seconds. Danielson just missed breaking his course record (1:41:20) set in 2004.
Rebecca Much of Chicago won the women’s top category in 2:16:28.
The race climbs 6,575 feet over 27.4 miles from Idaho Springs to the summit.
