OAKLAND, Calif. — The Athletics placed first baseman and designated hitter Jason Giambi on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a strained right quadriceps.
The Athletics said the injury wasn’t considered career- threatening, but couldn’t provide a timeline for when Giambi might return. Giambi, 38, has been dealing with sore legs for much of the season.
The Athletics recalled first baseman Daric Barton from Triple-A Sacramento.
White Sox activate Quentin
CHICAGO — White Sox outfielder Carlos Quentin was activated after missing nearly two months because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
The White Sox optioned outfielder Brian Anderson to Triple-A Charlotte.

The Rangers placed closer Frank Francisco on the DL with a mild case of pneumonia and recalled right-hander Willie Eyre from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

• Pitcher Chien-Ming Wang (biceps) had a setback in his recovery from a strained right shoulder, making it unlikely he will return to the Yankees anytime soon.
