BEDMINSTER, N.J. — Wyndham Clark of Greenwood Village triumphed in the round of 32 at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at the New Course at Trump National Golf Club but fell in the round of 16 on Thursday.

Clark, who plays out of Cherry Hills Country Club, defeated David Pastore of Greenwich, Conn., 3 and 2 in the round of 32, then lost 7 and 6 to Yaroslav Merkulov of Penfield, N.Y., in the round of 16.

Meanwhile, Kimberly Kim of Hilo, Hawaii, who will begin her freshman year at the University of Denver in the fall, advanced in the Girls Junior Amateur at the Old Course at Trump National.

Kim defeated Kristen Park of Buena Park, Calif., 5 and 4 in the round of 32 before eliminating Jessica Korda of Bradenton, Fla., on the 19th hole in the round of 16.

Na leads Canadian

OAKVILLE, Ontario — Kevin Na birdied the final five holes and nine of his last 12 for a 9-under 63 and a two-stroke lead over Retief Goosen, Scott Verplank and Joe Durant during the suspended first round of the 100th Canadian Open.

After playing one hole in the morning, Na waited out a 7 1/2-hour rain delay. Ninety-eight players were unable to finish the round, and 39 of them didn’t even begin play.

Becky Brewerton shot a 5-under 67 and was tied for the first-round lead with the South Korean duo of Na Yeon Choi and In-Kyung Kim at the Evian Masters in Evian-les-Bains, France.

• Lee Slattery birdied the first four holes and shot 6-under 67 to take the first-round lead in the SAS Masters in Loddekopinge, Sweden.

• Tiger Woods announced he will play in the Buick Open next week in Grand Blanc Township, Mich.
