A 60-year-old Boy Scout leader and church youth volunteer was arrested in Durango on Wednesday after showing up for what he thought would be a date with a teenage boy, according to police.

Instead, Thomas Helm of Durango was arrested on a felony Internet-luring charge and booked into the La Plata County Jail. He was being without bail today.

Helm reportedly arranged in e-mail exchanges to meet a 14-year-old, who actually was an undercover police officer, in a Durango cemetery just before noon Wednesday.

Police confiscated several computers at Helm’s home.

Helm, who is married, has been a youth worker at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Durango and helped coordinate overnight trips, as well as camping trips related to his work as a Boy Scout leader, according to the Durango Herald.

Durango police asked anyone with information on encounters with Helm to call 970-375-4738.
