CHICAGO — The Chicago Blackhawks announced Thursday that Marian Hossa will undergo shoulder surgery today that is expected to keep the winger sidelined the first two months of the NHL season.

Hossa, whom the Hawks signed to a 12-year, $62.8 million free-agent contract July 1, has a small tear in his right rotator cuff that he played with last season while he a member of the Detroit Red Wings.

“After consulting with my family and the Blackhawks, I have no doubt that this is the correct decision,” Hossa said. “I plan on being a member of the Blackhawks for a very long time, which is why I want to get this done and begin my career in Chicago at 100 percent.”

• The Carolina Hurricanes and forward Tuomo Ruutu agreed to a three-year deal worth $11.4 million.

• The Minnesota Wild signed center Kyle Brodziak to a three-year deal.

N.Y. Post: ESPN outed reporter

HARTFORD, Conn. — The New York Post defended its publication of photos from an illicitly filmed Internet video showing ESPN reporter Erin Andrews naked in a hotel room by accusing the sports network of having outed her.

On Wednesday, ESPN said it was banning Post reporters from appearing on the company’s programs because the newspaper published three photos from the video.

A newspaper spokeswoman declined to comment on the ban, but referred to an item on the Post’s gossip page that takes ESPN to task for allegedly outing Andrews.

“No one would have known that a sick voyeur had secretly videotaped ESPN reporter Erin Andrews nude in her hotel room if the Mickey Mouse sports network hadn’t sent a letter to an obscure website demanding that it take down its link to a fuzzy video of an unidentified blond,” the Post said.
