DENVER—Qwest has the go-ahead to raise the price of basic home phone service to $16.52 a month from $14.88 in Colorado.
The Colorado Public Utilities Commission approved the increase in a verbal order Thursday and will issue a written order Aug. 3. Appeals can be filed then.
Regulators set a cap of $17 a month, before taxes and fees, allowing Qwest to raise the rate to that price a year from now.
The Denver-based company wanted to boost the price on stand-alone landline service to $16.99, with a cap of $18.25.
The new rates will affect about half of Qwest’s landline customers in Colorado, or roughly 500,000 homes. Those with a bundle of services, a package of features with their phone line, won’t be affected.
