AURORA, Colo.—A car going the wrong way on a suburban Denver freeway has crashed head-on into a bus, killing the driver of the car and injuring four people on the bus.

Investigators say the car had stopped in the median of Interstate 225 in Aurora at about 2 a.m. Tuesday but took off when approached by a highway maintenance vehicle.

Authorities say the car drove into the path of an oncoming Regional Transportation District bus. The bus driver and three passengers were taken a hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities identified the woman who was killed as 21-year-old Christal Gordon of Aurora. No other names have been released.

Police don’t know yet whether drugs or alcohol were involved. They say it doesn’t appear that nearby highway maintenance work was a factor.
