DENVER—A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for a shooting outside a downtown Denver nightclub that killed one person and wounded six others.

Anthony Chavez was sentenced Tuesday in the slaying of 25-year-old Ted Padilla. Chavez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the Nov. 4, 2007, shootings.

A witness told police that some people in the club made comments to Padilla about his jewelry and managers kicked that group out. Investigators say Chavez opened fire into a crowd on the sidewalk as the lower downtown nightclub was closing.
