Denverites excited for sweater weather will have to wait another week.
Temperatures on Wednesday will be in the low 80s, which is slightly cooler for the week, but nowhere near traditional October temperatures, said Maggie Ideker, a forecaster at the National Weather Service in Boulder.
Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday tied previous record highs of 87 degrees. The record for Oct. 7 also is 87 degrees, but the Front Range is not expected to hit that on Wednesday.
“We had a shallow back-door cold front come through,” Ideker said. “It’s not much relief in terms of temperature.”
The front moved in over the plains overnight, she said.
Anyone looking forward to wearing their best fall fashion should get that chance next week.
Ideker said temperatures will start cooling on Sunday night and will drop into the mid-60s by midweek.
“The end is near,” she said of the October heat.
In other parts of the state, the Western Slope will experience afternoon highs that are trending about 15 degrees above normal while the Eastern Plains will be dry and hot with increasing winds bringing fire danger, according the weather service.
