OMAHA, Neb.—The Omaha Royals and Sarpy County officials have scheduled groundbreaking next month for the minor-league baseball team’s new stadium.
The event is set for the evening of Aug. 12 at the site along Nebraska Highway 370 southwest of Omaha and west of Papillion.
The Royals plan to build on 310 acres owned by commercial land developer Roger Langpaul of Des Moines. The Royals’ now play at Rosenblatt Stadium, home of the College World Series. The CWS is moving in 2011 to a 24,000-seat stadium under construction in downtown Omaha.
Funding for the Royals’ 6,000-seat ballpark has not been finalized. The team has committed to pay about $16 million of the $48 million cost.
