WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Betsy Markey introduced a bill Tuesday designed to address the growing problem of post-traumatic stress suffered by soldiers returning home from battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nicknamed the Honor Act, the Democrat’s bill already has several supporters in the U.S. Senate, including California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer and Sen. Joseph Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut.

Among its provisions, the legislation gives active service members access to a greater array of mental- health services, including clinics now available only to veterans no longer on active duty.
