Two men are in custody after they were captured Thursday afternoon by Arapahoe County authorities responding to reports of a burglary in progress.
The men were identified as Christopher Vigil, 29, and Jimmy Garcia, 23.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies were en route to an apartment in the 15700 block of East Jamison Drive when dispatchers said the burglars had fled in a black SUV.
About seven minutes later, Deputy Paula Cohn spotted the vehicle and pulled it over in a shopping center at 15000 E. Arapahoe Road.
The passenger in the front seat jumped out of the car and fled while Cohn detained the driver at gunpoint.
A perimeter was established, and the second suspect was taken into custody by an Aurora Police Department K-9 unit north of the shopping center.
Officers discovered the getaway car filled with guns, televisions and electronic equipment, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim said the apartment was ransacked and that several guns and jewelry were missing.
Vigil, who was driving the SUV, and Garcia, who was the passenger, are each being held on $50,000 bail. Vigil was out on bond for third-degree burglary and an escape charge. Garcia had eight active warrants for burglary out of Jefferson County, according to the Arapahoe Sheriff’s Department.
