CINCINNATI — Joe Beimel’s inability to secure a morning flight from Pittsburgh briefly left the Rockies’ roster move in a holding pattern.
However, the left-hander is listed on the lineup card for tonight’s game at Great American Ballpark, and Juan Rincon is not.
Rincon has been bothered by some elbow stiffness and was placed on the disabled list. He iced it last night and was talking with trainer Keith Dugger and tested it by playing catch today.
Beimel gives the Rockies another lefty to pair with Franklin Morales in the bullpen. Beimel actually has faced more right-handers than lefties this season. That would allow Morales to be used as a specialist, if necessary. He did just that last night, retiring Joey Votto with runners on first and second base in the seventh inning of the 5-3 victory.
Scott Rolen arrived after his trade from the Blue Jays. He’s starting at third base and hitting fifth.
