BASALT — A 14-year-old boy faces charges including arson after fires damaged two apartments in the Basalt area.

Eagle County sheriff’s officials said Saturday that the boy allegedly admitted lighting the fires in his apartment complex Thursday and Friday after becoming upset with residents. His name wasn’t released.

Sheriff’s officials say that in the first fire, newspapers were stuffed into an oven at an apartment before the oven was turned on. Authorities say that in a fire at the same complex Friday, clothing was set on fire.

No one was hurt.

The boy faces two counts of first-degree arson and two counts of criminal mischief. He was taken to a juvenile detention facility in Denver.
