MANKATO, Minn. — Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson sprained the MCL in his left knee after getting tangled with defensive lineman LeTroy Guion during practice at training camp Saturday, according to a person with knowledge of the injury. Jackson is day to day.

Cushing OKs deal

HOUSTON — The Texans agreed to a deal with first-round pick Brian Cushing, but the linebacker arrived too late to make an afternoon practice. Terms were not released. Coach Gary Kubiak immediately pegged the former Southern California star as a key to improving the Texans’ defense.

Cardinals’ Wells done deal

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Cardinals agreed to terms on a five-year contract with first-round pick Beanie Wells, a former Ohio State running back. In his first practice he rolled his left leg in a collision with Jason Banks and was taken off on a cart.

First-round selection Hakeem Nicks became the last of the Giants’ nine picks to reach a deal when the former North Carolina receiver signed a five-year contract that will pay him a little less than $12.5 million. Nicks was the 29th pick overall in the draft.

• Receiver Kenny Britt agreed to terms on a contract with the Titans, getting him into training camp a week before the team’s first preseason game. The Titans open the NFL’s preseason Aug. 9 in the Hall of Fame game against Buffalo.

• Bears cornerback Zack Bowman made the first interception of camp off Jay Cutler in a scrimmage, and shortly afterward linebacker Brian Urlacher picked him off as well.

• Ravens receiver Derrick Mason has ended his retirement. He joined the team Saturday after the morning practice and expects to be back on the field today.

• Browns receiver Braylon Edwards missed the team’s first practice of camp with an injury no one wants to talk about. There have been reports that Edwards hurt himself playing basketball, but he refused to divulge any information.

• Ben Roethlisberger apologized to his Steelers teammates for causing a possible distraction, then declined to discuss the Nevada civil lawsuit that accuses the veteran quarterback of sexual assault.

• The 49ers kicked off their first camp under coach Mike Singletary without their top draft pick, receiver Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech, who has yet to sign a contract.

• Redskins fullback Eddie Williams sat out practice with a hamstring injury and cornerback Carlos Rogers missed part of the workout after tweaking a leg muscle.

• Pro Bowl nose tackle Kris Jenkins left the Jets’ practice with a strained left calf, an injury not believed to be serious. But he will likely be sidelined a few days.

• Pro Bowl receiver Roddy White has not reported for the first workout of the Falcons’ camp because of an apparent contract holdout.

• Three Lions — offensive tackle Ephraim Salaam, defensive tackle Sammie Hill and receiver Demir Boldin — failed conditioning tests and were held out of practice.

• The Colts signed defensive tackle Fili Moala, a second-round pick, and receiver Austin Collie, a fourth-round pick. The team did not disclose details of the contracts. Top draft pick Donald Brown remains unsigned.

• Reggie Bush missed his first practice, but Saints coach Sean Payton said the running back was just resting and did not appear to have any problems with his surgically repaired left knee.
