The U.S. should spend an additional $50 million to buy pork for federal food programs to help hog farmers, who have lost almost $4.4 billion since September 2007, Iowa Gov. Chet Culver said. Nine governors, including Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, sent a letter to President Barack Obama on Friday asking him to boost spending on pork and to work on reopening U.S.-to-China exports of the meat, Culver said Friday.
