A homeless man in Grand Junction gave the staff and residents fair warning Thursday night, police said.
“A staff member went out to his car and he said, ‘I’m going to drive through the building,’ and that’s what he did,” said police Sgt. Kevin Imbriaco.
Mark Bird, 49, drove his car through the glass doors and deep into the lobby, wrecking a wall and leaving electrical lines dangling, but no one was injured in incident about 8 p.m. at the HomewardBound of the Grand Valley shelter. Bird spends much of his time at the shelter.
Police arrested Bird on suspicion of driving under the influence, attempted vehicular assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. He was taken to a hospital for unknown injuries and then booked into jail.
