Honoring real GI Joes
Heritage Square pays tribute to men and women in uniform on Sunday during “National Heroes Day.” The event includes a military firepower showcase, the Army of One Humvee, the Navy Seal Trailer, an Antarctic Snowcat and an Army Reserves Rocket Launcher. A portion of the day’s revenues benefit the USO. Service members and families get half-off admission. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., 18301 W. Colfax Ave., Golden. Info: Heritage or 303-727-8437.

At the movies
Not-so-fast food
Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) and Julie Powell (Amy Adams) star in Nora Ephron’s adaptation of two best-selling memoirs: Child’s “My Life in France” (with Alex Prud’homme) and Powell’s “Julie and Julia.” The movie, “Julie & Julia,” intertwines the lives of both women. PG-13. 2 hours, 3 minutes.
Living Dolls
In “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” the famous action figures come to life as the elite special-ops military unit GIJOE (an acronym for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity). Their mission is to take down a bad-to-the-bone group, Cobra, led by a notorious weapons dealer. PG-13. 1 hour, 58 minutes.
Homebodies
Dark stalkings
Beyonce, Ali Larter and Idris Elba star in “Obsessed,” now on DVD, the tale of an attractive — but crazy — intern who stalks a happily married asset manager and terrorizes his family. It’s “Fatal Attraction” — without the attraction. PG-13.
The race is on
In “Race to Witch Mountain,” cute but paranormally empowered kids team up with a recovering tough-guy Vegas cabbie (Dwayne Johnson a.k.a. “The Rock”) to save the planet. PG.
