AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION: Appointed Air Force Col. James M. Durant III as chairman of the general practice, solo and small-firm division. Durant is serving as a judge advocate, deputy department head and assistant professor of law at the Air Force Academy.

CASA OF ADAMS AND BROOMFIELD COUNTIES: Presented Brighton resident Lori Markley with the Thom as E. Green Award for outstanding service to victims in nonprofit-based settings. As a volunteer coordinator, Markley has supervised numerous volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates, who have provided services to more than 237 child victims of abuse or neglect.

AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF FLORAL DESIGNERS: BJ Dyer, co-owner of Bouquets in Denver, has been recognized as a charter recipient of its new Certified Floral Designer designation.

GOLDEN GAMING INC.: Promoted Shannon Keel to assistant general manager of its three casinos in Black Hawk — Golden Mardi Gras, Golden Gates and Golden Gulch.

MOODY INSURANCE AGENCY: Promoted Mike Roark to vice president of insurance operations.

LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION: Mayor John Hickenlooper formally appointed Martin Goldstein, founder of Venture Architecture, to the commission.

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION: Granted Katie Siek, an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Colorado at Boulder, $600,000 over five years to develop technological solutions to help address the increase in obesity and related chronic illnesses among low-income communities.

ELEVATED THIRD: The Web- strategy consulting agency hired Carrie Roseman and Jenna Tully as project managers; and Michael Lander, a Drupal developer.

McCRACKEN EYE & FACE INSTITUTE PC: Dr. Michael S. McCracken has launched the practice in Parker, specializing in oculoplastic surgery, including cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyes and face.
