DENVER—The U.S. Department of Agriculture is once again boosting the forecast for Colorado winter wheat production this year.

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service said Wednesday it expects a harvest of 93.6 million bushels, up 64 percent from the 57 million bushels harvested last year.

That tops the forecast last month of 88.8 million bushels and a prediction at the time by the Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee of 91 million.

This year’s crop has been helped in part by spring rain.

The statistics service expects Colorado sorghum, dry bean and sugar beet production to be up from last year, but late frosts mean apple production will likely be down. The agency expects the Colorado peach and corn crops to be lower too.
