LONGMONT, Colo.—A medical examiner says the Longmont man who was shot by officers after a car chase died of multiple head and chest wounds.

Authorities say three Longmont police officers and a Boulder County deputy fired 16 rounds at 35-year-old Brian Christopher Naranjo early Monday. Another deputy fired a beanbag round to shatter Naranjo’s car window.

Investigators say Naranjo had sped away after a routine traffic stop and was shot after turning toward the officers while holding a weapon.

The officers who fired at Naranjo were identified as David Bonday, Bruce Pettitt and Mike Snelson of the Longmont police and Todd Moody of the sheriff’s department.

Authorities say sheriff’s Sgt. Jason Oehlkers fired the beanbag round.

All are on leave during an investigation.
